Official ARRL Field Day 2009 Results

Greetings Field Day Fanatics!!!

The ARRL has published the final results for Field Day 2009 and here are some interesting facts:

By the end of July of this year the ARRL received 2,612 Field Day entries from individuals and organizations and those entries indicate that 37,706 people participated in Field Day in some role (e.g., set-up, operating, take down, visitor, helper, greeter, etc). That number includes hams and non-ham visitors and participants. During the 24 hours of Field Day operations the 2,612 entries made 1,362,665 QSOs.

That’s an average of 522 QSOs per entry or 36 QSOs per participant/visitor.

The 2,612 entries, the 1,362,665 QSOs and the 37,706 participants are all new records for Field Day. Remember, that's only information received by the ARRL and unfortunately doesn’t include the information from the unknown number of participants who did not submit an official entry for whatever reason.

W3VPR Results

This year we had 132 visitors/participants at our Field Day of which 68 were club members. In the previous five years the highest number of visitors/participants at our Field day was 73 in 2004. Between 2004 and 2008 we averaged 62 visitors/participants.

By the way - We had the 6th highest number of participants of all 2,612 entries! We missed 2nd place in participants by a mere 18! The highest number of participants at a Field Day event this year was 259.

In our opinion, the number of visitors/participants is a true indicator of a successful Field Day event. Naturally, making lots of contacts adds to the overall excitement and fun of Field Day.

So how did we do? Drum roll please...

    #1 Mississauga ARC VE3MIS 6,144 points (1,712 QSOs and 22 participants)
    #2 Anne Arundel RC W3VPR 5,028 points (1,092 QSOs and 132 participants)

Notice that we had a few more visitors/participants than they did and we're fairly certain that we ate much better than they did.

We have received the last 170+ pictures from Field Day. We'll try to get them organized in some sort of logical order - Preparation, Set-up, Operating, take-down, etc. Fortunately they will all fit on a single DVD. If you would like to have a DVD with all of the Field Day photos, a couple small movies, the infamous "commercials", and the equally infamous "Home on the Waves" Field Day song for the cost of the DVD in a DVD case (about $2 total), please send an e-mail to Bob/AA3RR: aa3rr@w3vpr.org so we can know how many DVDs and cases to purchase.

If time permits the DVDs will be available in early December - What a great Christmas gift!

FIELD DAY ALERT!

Field Day 2010 is just around the corner. As of November 14th there are only 223 days remaining until we start setting up our Field Day operation once again.
