Info on how to get a tower permit in Anne Arundel county

Well Montgomery County was a bit easier only that it took less than an hour. AA county took 2 hours to process primarily because they claim they never did a permit for a tower before. Then it took a week so that the plans could be reviewed, but they passed without issues or questions.

My tower will be a 61’ one that I moved from Montgomery County. I had the manufacturers engineering documents that were also stamped by a Maryland PE.

You will need several documents as outlined on
http://www.aacounty.org/IP/PAC/ApplInstruct.cfm

My “Site Development Plan” was a 1 page document where half of it quoted the county code on residential towers.

The code is:
§ 18-4-105. Noncommercial antennas.
A noncommercial antenna structure in a residential district shall comply with the following:

(1) the height of the structure may not exceed the lesser of 100 feet or the width or depth of the property as determined by a line bisecting the structure and measured from one side of the lot line to the other or from the front lot line to the rear lot line at the shortest distance between the two lines;

(2) the setback for the central vertical portion of the antenna structure shall be at least 10 feet from each lot line for a structure up to 35 feet high and 10 feet plus one additional foot for each three feet in excess of 35 feet for a structure over 35 feet high; and

(3) each rigid radiating element of the structure shall be set back at least 10 feet from any lot line.

And for a 61’ tower that worked out to be about an 18’ setback.

So overall it was not very difficult. Next step is to dig a hole, place the rebar and get it’s first inspection.
