Tonight's net (2008-04-16)

Good net tonight, several of us tried for a very low elevation pass of the ISS (10 degrees to the SW) but no-one was able to track it down. I'll have to try and see what else is visible on upcoming nights. For those interested, there's a nice web site: http://www.heavens-above.com/?Loc=Bowie&Lat=39.007&Lng=-76.779&Alt=45&TZ...
that has links to visible satellites and even Iridium flares.

I was also able to just make out KB3LZV on HF (7200) and was able to make my first contacts with people I actually have met before on 28.310 and 7230, included were K3REM, K3ACT (a bit of a cheat, he was booming in 60dB over since he's got an antenna about 4 houses up from me) But it was cool to talk with people in the club on other frequencies.

There are a few other people that are thinking about dusting off their TNCs and maybe getting onto packet, if you're in the Bowie/Crofton/Odenton area, we've been having success on 145.030. Mine is set up 24-7 on a dedicated radio, though the antenna's not optimum, it's usable. N3USP-1 is my mailbox, and N3PZB-1 (Bill) has been connecting, as well as Kb3LZV, so feel free to leave an email if you can connect, I always like seeing the blinking yellow light. After reading that the AARC packet setup is 145.050, this might be a good first try as we are getting the club digipeater on the air in the not too distant future.
