Tucked away in a valley in the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia, is this: the Green Bank Radio Telescope, the largest steerable radio telescope in the world. And there are some rather special rules for the area around it...

Since Radio Amateur Newsline reported a few weeks ago that NSF were considering shutting down Greenbank I wondered why because they were not too clear on that. I thought perhaps the encroach of civilization might be the reason. On the other hand, like they say, I've stayed in Marlington WV not too far from Greenbank and they have wireless service.
